One of the things that makes Bowes Park so lovely is the unique architecture. In 1994 a large proportion of the area became a Conservation Area so special regulations are in place to protect the character of the district can remain for future generations. This means that almost all alterations to a building require planning permission. The regulations cover trees too!
Part of Bowes Park is also covered by the Bounds Green Ward Restricted Conversion Area. Haringey Council want to retain a mix of housing so permission to convert houses into flats will not be granted on streets where 20% of properties have already been converted.
Part of the BPCA’s work is to monitor applications submitted to Enfield and Haringey councils. Anyone can lodge a comment (either in favour, or not) or object to the application. The Council must consider all views before deciding to grant permission for the works.
